They calm down considerably with regular handling and treats. They always try to get away when being picked up but perfectly fine after. They are gentle and enjoy being held and petted. Very similar to temperament of rabbits. They poop a lot, like rabbits do.
Any animal acquired takes time and patience to form any bond.
Even if you find a perfectly trained tame GP it doesn't mean it will remain that way. Much depends on the owner.
If you don't have the time to work with a little GP then what kind of time and effort IOW- commitment-would you have in ownership?

But I have had cavies most of my life, even bred them for awhile. Only with my new trio have I had a naturally friendly one! It is amazing. Her 2 sisters are chickens, one is a singer and sometimes almost friendly, other is a big noper to it.
