There are 2 more to lamb, Big Girl, registered, and Rip, white Dorper.
I'm pondering on a name. Scottie is named after my brother, both born on Pearl Harbor Day. So this little girl needs a special name, it will come to me.
My sister is dumbfounded that I name all my sheep. How do you remember all those names??
I'm sorry you lost so many in such a short time.Lamb count 41, lost 3, have 38. Lost 4 ewes and sadly Granny was one of them. I found her dead one morning, looked like she bloated. If caught early, a bloated sheep can be saved with lots of mineral oil and forced to walk until they fart out the gas and spray mineral oil out the back end. But she showed no sign of bloat that evening. It made me so sad. Even though Granny was on the sell list, I loved her and wanted her to go to a good home. Also lost Daisy, Granny's first lamb. And Pancake and Ginger. All had lambs.
I got Prohibit and we wormed all the ewes in the front field on Friday. I asked Charles and the boys to come help Layne and they all did a good job. I stood on the outside, handing Layne a syringe of Prohibit and if needed shots of iron and B vitamins. In a couple of weeks, we will do all the ewes and lambs in both fields.
The homeopathic wormer is doing a great job, but for a heavy load, it needs the "big guns" to be used. The ewes in the middle field are doing great with it.
Out of 41 lambs and only losing 3 is pretty darn good. Losing the 4 ewes is not good. I think I'm down to selling 15 grown ewes and keeping 17 ewe lambs from this bunch. I'm losing at sheep math. I wound up with 5 bottle babies. Layne and Chase banded the 2 boys, have a couple that wants to buy 2 wethers to raise up for the freezer. The 3 ewe lambs are Tinkerbelle, Mabelline and her sister Avon. All 5 have been on one 16 ounce bottle a day this week, tomorrow they will get cut to 8 ounces a day until the 2 gallons of formula i mixed yesterday runs out.
Big Girl, registered ewe and Rip, white Dorper still have to lamb. @Ridgetop sent me a buyer for the remaining 4 Dorper ewes and the buyer gets the lambs from Rip included. I'll let them go in mid March. That way I can wean their lambs, pen them up, dry them off and then give them alfalfa to give them a little condition before the buyer picks them up. Meanwhile Cooper is running the middle filed and looks like most if not all of those ewes will sell as bred or "exposed". Little Ringo is running the front field, he made a jail break. I'll remove both rams in mid March.
Was it the worms that killed the ewes?Lamb count 41, lost 3, have 38. Lost 4 ewes and sadly Granny was one of them. I found her dead one morning, looked like she bloated.
