Baymule’s 2026 Lambing + December 2025

I forgot to post these pictures in the first of March. Layne was doing evening chores, all I could do was watch. The flock was at the gate to the night pen, screaming to be let in!

Stampede! Devil take the hindmost! Rush to the small night pen for feed.

Layne closed up the gate, tied with haystring. LOL the lambs didn’t run to the small night pen with the ewes. They packed up around Layne, waiting for their feed.

He shut the gate to the small night pen to keep the ewes from gobbling up their feed, then taking the lambs feed. Of course the lambs dogged his every step screaming MAH! MAH! MAH!

Layne put out feed for the lambs, they were happy. They were so cute the way they followed him. He took good care of my sheep when I wasn’t able and I’m grateful for that.

Y'all remember Crenshaw, the beautiful tri colored lamb? I said he had the frosting but had to wait for the cake to bake. No matter how pretty, the body conformation had to be there. Well, he didn;t "bake". Slow growth, and only one testicle. And that one testicle was very small. Not only small, but when I touched it he sucked it up in his belly, where the other one probably was. The sack was was small, snugged up against the belly instead of hanging down properly. That is a SEVERE fault. Can't make a flock sire out of a one nut ram. In 11 years of having sheep, he is the first one nut ram that I've had, or even seen. And it just had to be the knock out pretty one.

I had saved another ram, he had a little color showing but it faded away. Already have 2 rams, don't need him, so I took them to the nearest auction yesterday. It was in Livingston, a cattle auction and a lousy auction for goats and sheep. I've only been there once, several years ago when I only had 2 ram lambs and it wasn't worth hauling them farther away to a better auction. Same thing yesterday, I knew I wouldn't get much, but it wasn't worth hauling them 3 hours away when fuel costs would eat up taking them there. At least the white ram had proper big low hanging testicles! LOL

The tri colored ram brought $110 and the white ram brought $135. After auction fees, I got a check for $215. Lousy prices. There were probably 20 head of sheep and goats, all of them scruffy looking rejects that made mine look better. Prices were decent for the goats, but they were scrubby looking things too.

Before I went home, I visited with some friends and we had a good time.

I already had a breeding list made up for that pretty ram. Oh well.
