Baymule’s Journal

My water hose has been fused to the faucet for since I got here. the hose end was brass colored, not brass and I could not get the hose off. Then because I needed more hose I connected another hose with real brass connectors to the one with not brass connectors, it fused up too. I've mentioned to my son for 3 years that it needed fixing and evidently he did not think it an emergency. Both hoses developed bubbles. Gonna bust bubbles. The second hose busted open about 5 feet from the end of the hose on Wednesday. I could still water all the pens except the pen with Red and his girls. I had to carry buckets of water to them. But I couldn't turn off the water between pens with my handy fitting on the end of the hose...........

Well guess who drug up from his job in Louisiana and is starting a job in Pecos Texas on Tuesday, and came home Friday night? Talk about timing!

He came over yesterday morning, I got out tools and he got the hose bib off the PVC fitting. I went to Lufkin and got a new hose bib. He came back over and the PVC fitting wouldn't seal up and it dripped. He put on more teflon tape and the fitting cracked open. He cut off the fitting (I had PVC cutter tool) and we went back to Lufkin. Lowes didn't have the threaded fitting. Went to Home Depot and they did, got 3 just because. Came back, it was 5:30 by this time so while I fed animals, he fixed the faucet situation. I now have a new hose bib with 2 new hoses with real brass fittings and I'm back in business.

I had a hose fuse to my spigot for the same reason, alloy metal crap fittings. I had to use a hacksaw to remove the hose fitting, then had to use a thread recutting tool to fix the spigot threads I'd damaged with the hacksaw.
:he

Only hoses with brass fittings from now on!

PS I would love to borrow someone's DS or DH to replace a hose bib that is soldered on a copper pipe...but I will probably have to hire a plumber...

Don't laugh, I had to look up hose bibb... we called them sillcocks when I was growing up... never heard a different term. Or simple faucet spigot valves. So I looked them up and there is a difference... and I guess because of more cold and such, sillcocks are used alot more up north. Learn something new every day.

That's the word my dad used when he was trying to replace one of my outside spigots. He went to all the local plumbing suppliers looking for a quality hose bibb/spigot/etc.

I have a plastic tote of PVC fittings but I didn’t have THAT one! I do now!
We have an old filing cabinet, but it seems we never have exactly what we need. Why is that you might ask, because... he rarely buys extra of the fittings we need on a regular basis.🤷‍♀️
