Black oil sunflower seeds with flock raiser for chickens and ducks?

Hey, ya'll homesteaders!!
I recently got 2 ducks last Saturday, both female ducklings. A Rouen and a Blue Swedish!

I do have a flock of 14 laying hens, and they are on laying hen feed. The ducklings are on Flock Raiser. I plan to switch chickens to flock raiser once I bring the ducklings into the chicken's flock. Can I mix black oil sunflower seeds into flock raiser for the protein for the chickens?

I wouldn't mix the BOSS into the feed.

The regular BOSS, straight out of the bag, is about 16% protein, so not higher than flock raiser... so it would not be helping to incresse overall protein.
Sunflower seeds are also pretty high in fats.....

BOSS is a great treat though.


The really high protein counts for sunflower seeds are when they are dried and ground... like in a meal.

Flock raiser should be just fine for your laying hens. Then just put out oyster grit free choice so they can get extra calcium if they need it.
