Boar gone berserk!

The farmers we bought our boar from had there boar go crazy, during mating with a sow. As far as I understand she fell down while he was on her and it sent him in to a rage, they had to beat him off of her with a broom. Sadly they had to put her down. Has anyone heard of a boar going mad like that? Prior to this he has been a very nice trustworthy pig.

That’s scary, I’ve never heard of anything like that. Boar’s can stay on top of the sow for quite some time during mating and I’ve seen it where a sow starts to get pretty tired with him being up there for so long. Boar’s get super hormonal when mating and can be very unpredictable. If I see my boar pursuing a sow I keep my distance until he’s calm.

So far it seems to be a freak thing, no-one has heard of anything like this happening. we just worry that our boar might do the same thing if it's genetic quirk.
