Fen climbed in my lap last night…and immediately questioned the wisdom of it when Boone and Gizmo both got a cookie in the kitchen…

I have 3 happy, happy, happy dogs tonight. They each got a deer leg to chew in their crates. Fen got tired of his first, so I let him out. Gizmo quickly ran to his crate and stole his bone to take back to her crate, which worked out ok because while she was stealing Fen’s, Boone was stealing hers 😂
So Gizmo still has a bone in her crate, Boone has his original bone outside where he took it, and her bone in his crate and Fen is in the bedroom licking out the ice cream bowls because they were too busy pilfering to notice

I don’t know what I would do without this handsome boi in my life. He is constantly looking for ways to help me. He brings me things I ask for by name (meds, phone, back scritchy, tv thang, etc) and has reached the point where if he doesn’t know the name of something I can direct him to it, and when he touches whatever it is, I merely say “yes” and he carries it to my hands. If he does know what it is, it doesn’t matter what room I left it in, he will search the house until he finds it.

With my loss of flexibility he has begun removing my socks for me, tugging my sleeves to help get my jacket etc off. He’s now coming to help me get up, placing himself so I can grab his heavy leather collar so he can help pull me forward, and of course he balances me when I walk.
He learns incredibly fast. If I show him a new item, have him stay in the bedroom then hide item somewhere in the house, I can ask him to find it for me. From that point forward, he remembers what the item is called.

My pain levels have been really high lately and he’s been sleeping against my back instead of at my feet. Idk why he does it, but it does help.
He’s amazingly kind. I had to tell Gizmo to go pick in someone her own size as she bullies him mercilessly, stealing bones and toys right out of his mouth. I laugh because he has gotten her entire head in his mouth and she continues to trash talk him 😂

Sometimes he is rude to Fen, slapping him with one of his big paws to try and discourage him from getting in line for treats. I put his e collar on him and don’t even turn it on. Just knowing he overstepped humiliates him and him climbs in my chair with me and presses his head to mine.

And along with all the above, I still haven’t lost a chicken or rabbit to the scores of nocturnal predators on the ranch.
I couldn’t ask for a better partner
