This funny little dog…she sits right outside the bathroom door while I shower. She wriggles her way up onto the bed, making absolutely sure she’s in contact, either lying ON my feet, or snuggled up under my arm like a kid. She craves touch and she’s always looking into my eyes. She’s the neediest little critter I ever knew.

She’s cuddly like a kitten, fast like a cheetah but fierce as a badger. I got a DNA test I will send out Monday, I doubt any of those will show up but it’s bound to make understanding and maybe even training her easier if I know what her instincts may be.

They said they believed she spent much of her 4 years on the streets, but had been at the rescue long enough to have been adopted, then rejected twice and in another week, which was at the end of the month, her “time would be up” whatever that meant.

She bosses Boone around like a school marm, and even with her limited interactions with he and Fen, she is queen of the house and yard.

She lost that overwhelming canine desire to please somewhere along the way, but increased her need for affection and reassurance. She’s manic over food, and would quickly eat herself into a coma.

She’s ruthless about what she wants from me, squirming her way into position and growling fiercely until her belly gets rubbed and she doesn’t grant breaks to scratch my eyebrow. If I am seated on the couch, she WILL sit where she wants, even if it keeps me from breathing. In spite of getting more than her share, she steals food anywhere she can, including off my plate, or out of my hand, if she is able to. She’s a little tyrant because at one time, in order to survive, she had to be.

She grieves when I leave her, and celebrates wildly when I come back.
I doubt she’d be good around children or female dogs. She has no manners and no training and although she’s wicked smart, she resists learning. However, she picked up on pushing the button that verbally asks for treats amazingly quickly. She tolerates Randy and Tom and reluctantly allows me to interact with Boone.

She claimed me instantly, the first time we went to the rescue to meet her. She’s been here almost 8 months and not much has changed.

But she’s home.

I bet they'll find "chow hound" in her DNA

There's something about her head that says German Shepherd sometimes. But nothing else says that.
I suspect a cattle breed like a Queensland or Kelpie in the mix, as they have similar heads, size and prick ears but the black coat and curly tail is another thing entirely
