Loving the herd life
Hi everyone, I don't know if this is just normal, young goat behavior or not. Our wether is about 9 months old. He is the dominant of the two..we also have his sister. They frequently rear up and butt each other and generally get along fairly well. However, he has started rearing up towards us as well and jumping on us when we come in. They both jump on us when we come in with food, treats etc., and I try to get out of the way so they cant land on us, but he is getting more eager to jump up. Neither of them try to butt us. I am thinking that we may have to go the squirt gun route and squirt them if they jump. He jumped on my 6 year old and knocked her into the side of the barn today. ( I should note that they are Nigerian Dwarfs so not too big) Also, when leading him, he tends to rear up and jump forward if he doesn't feel like following you where you want to go. The doe will dig in her heels and even try to go backwards. We are new goat owners so I want to make sure that my approach would help the problem. Also, I am assuming it is just immature, bratty behavior and not agression. They get lots of attention and start to holler as soon as they see myself or my children.
