Hi all - new member and new shepherd. I’m looking for some help in trying to identify a breed of sheep we’ve acquired. Our main flock is Painted Desert but we have a couple of sheep we got from a local of unknown heritage.
For the original flock we got them from, they are generally black (some have white), horned ( a couple are polled), wool but not very long wool and they shed in the spring/summer. I’ve attached several pictures below, including a lamb born to us a few weeks ago. There is one white Katahdin in his flock and the lamb we have is a grandchild of that Katahdin. The rest are black with fairly good sized horns. The original herd sire was a very large, heavy ram with thick horns and the same short black wool.
I realize they may not be pure anything and may be a cross. I can’t really find any large, black, shedding wool breeds from scouring the Internet. I wondered if maybe someone selecting on purpose for Wiltshire Horn genetics in a Katahdin flock but who knows.
I appreciate any ideas!
I don’t know why these images are rotating but I apologize. Not sure how to fix it!
