Hi there. I am super new to rabbit breeding for meat. I picked up my does last week and will be getting the buck today. The does were said to be NZ, but after my own research I’m thinking they are a mix with California maybe because of their markings. Could you tell me your thoughts? I can try to get a better picture later today if needed.

Welcome to the forum. A picture showing more of the bunny might help. I'm no expert but they sure look like a California. They look young and healthy. Somebody that knows more than I do will pop on here before to long. Good luck and again welcome.

They are very energetic and lively, they seem to eat well. They’re a lot of fun actually! Here is a different picture. I know California is also a good meat breed so if they are a mix I’m not disappointed. They all have gray tails as well.

UGH! I wish people had a clue, but yes those are not pure NZ, can be a mix. But looks like Californian in there as that's the most common meat breed with "Himalayan" markings.

New Zealand white and Californian are often cross bred. They are probably a cross since pure Cali have darker points. If you are just using for meat they will be fine.
