Hello Everyone!!
I love pot bellie pigs! I have one she lives in our house and is house trained. Her name is Flower. I am considering getting a male and another female and start breeding them. I have a few questions though. To start with my Flower pig is a little on the heavier side. When breeding them does that put the female in danger if she is little over weight? She is not obese by any means, she is active runs loose all day long and grazes on grass.
How many times a year do I have to worm the pigs? So far we have never wormed flower because she has never looked wormy and we have had her manure tested and she did not have any eggs or worms in it. But it just a thought I would like to know. I was also wondering what kind of wormers everyone uses on there pigs?
Shots!! What kind of shots should all of my ALL of my pigs get? Rabies shot probably one of the most important? And all of there vaccination?
Also our lovely little flower had scabies when we first purchased her from her breeder. How do prevent scabies/mange in pigs all together? If I get more pigs they will probably live outside.
Most pigs are very clean right ? So they shouldn't go to the bathroom in there sleeping area if they allowed to have a wide open pen.
How longs do pigs carry there piglets for ? How often do the females come into heat ?
When breeding them is it just putting male in with female? Or do I have to wait? Will they fight ? Will the male hurt or kill the female ?
When is the best time for breeding pigs? (I don"t know if its like breeding horses or goats but when I breed a mare I usually breed them in April or May to get a March or april foal and when I breed goats I usually breed around the end of October)
I herd someone say they have to put the piglets teeth or something when they are young? Whats is that all about ?
What are the vaccinations that the piglets should have before I sell them? I wanna do things right as a breeder and have healthy piglets to sell.
Can Pot Bellies be registered? I know the woman we got ours from said that we could register our piglet we got but she said something about she never did anything with the paper work to get them all registered.
If i am missing any more information I would love to have it!!
