Can a calf have allergies? This calf belongs to a friend of mine. She has been on a few rounds on antibiotics, the vet said not to bring her back (nothing else they could do). She had an infection in her chest and a cough, both seem to be cleared up right now.

Currently, she has a clear runny nose and she doesn't want to drink the bottle (0.5 oz to 2 oz at a time). She will eat some feed (if it is out of someone's hand), but she drops quite a bit of it.

She is 3 or 4 months old. Bought at an auction when she was a couple days old (I think).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just guessing, but I would suspect that the vet knew that this was what is called a "chronic". These calves have had a severe respiratory infection, and they have damaged their lungs beyond repair. They often live for several months, but as they grow and demand more and more oxygen to survive, their lungs cannot keep up, and they eventually die. Hope I'm wrong about this, but without seeing the calf, I can only guess.
