I didn't pick up eggs yesterday so today, I had 9 waiting. Then, on way inside, I spotted a "hidden" nest with 8 more 😳. They had stopped during our frigid crap, obviously back at it now! Still 6 pullets that should be doing first eggs "any day"....

Thinking some eggs bites -- to heat/eat mornings. I like breakfast, just not cooking right then. Good to cook about 10 😁

Egg salad, frozen eggs, fried eggs. I found that by using silicone muffin tin liners (the stand up by themselves) I can 'fry' a dozen in the air fryer at a time. They freeze ok & are the perfect round size for breakfast sandwiches.
Those things are great - I make egg bites with them and freeze them.

I'm a huge fan of soy sauce hard boiled eggs. But between the boiling & the marinating, it takes a couple of days.
Today I learned of a method of steaming several beaten eggs with a bit of water. It produces something that looks like flan or tofu. Score it into a grid & pour soy sauce over - same taste in 5 mins. Slightly softer texture.... but really nice on Ramin or salads.

What do you do, submerge hard boiled eggs in soy sauce?

Yes. Several peeled eggs in a bag (or jar or whatever) covered in soy sauce for a day or longer. The whites turn dark brown & instead of being tasteless rubber, they become the star of the show. Also, a decent replacement for mushrooms in just about anything.
😋

I'm still trying to work out the details to get that 'flan' looking steamed eggs thing to work right for me. Seems to maybe a very delicate balance of water-to-egg & how long/how hot to steam....? But... I've got quite a few so-so attempts in the fridge. Will be used with grits in the AMs. Maybe in my salad too.

I am going to try this!

Imagine a jar of pullet eggs prepared this way...

The last 2 weeks of 2025 were the hardest '3-day weeks' I've done in a long time. I don't know who I thought I was impressing with all that 'over achieving' in the lab. Me, I guess.
I blew my Expectations list out of the water the first day & just kept going. Supervisor was off last week & will be gone another week and a half. I'm already finished with what she wanted done while she is gone & have been just making stuff up for the last couple days. 🤪

In typical ADHD-farm-chaos fashion, I finished up the year here in 'Style'. 🤣

I got home Wed night & as I pulled in, I noticed Eva's hay was petty low. Since it's going to be COLD for several days it was time to drop that 2nd bale.
A quick trip to the barn for the box cutter was all it was going to take. I had been careful to set it up so that I could reach all the tarp knots & enough of the net wrap that I would be able to easily get it all done from the yard side of the fence.
Knots undone, tarp pulled, net cut, popped the latch on the ratchet strap and down into the feeder it went..... with some of the net somehow still wrapped around it. 😱
Back up to the barn to turn off the fence (just in case). Back down to the feeder wagon to tug on the net. Nope! Not happening. Please keep in mind the next decision was NOT based on good sense.... or even common sense, but on 3 long days of HARD work & my feet, ankles, knees, hips & back hurting really bad - and my deep desire to get the outdoor stuff DONE so I could get into the shower & bed ASAP.
I stood there in the 30° dark looking at that long piece of netting caught between the bale & the middle of the hay ring....
🤔 NOT putting my only good sneakers in that manure/pee soaked mess around the feeder. Also NOT walking (limping) all the way to the house to change shoes & come back.
Shoes off.... sockfeet into the ick 🤢
Netting removed!
But now I have cow pee smelling socks that I'm not putting inside my sneakers (that smell will never come out).... 🙄 "Just get it done & be done with this day!"
Sooooo - frozen sock feet to the barn to turn the fence back on. Then across the yard to close up the chickens 🦶🦶🦶🦶🦶🦶 🥶. Then finally to the house.
Sneakers safe from becoming barn shoes.
Everyone safe for the night.
LONG HOT shower, some soup & a DMSO massage and 2025 was finally done!
