i am considering getting a cattle panel or two, to wrap around a roll of hay to keep the animals from walking through it. i have tried to make a 'feeder' out of wood but they never hold up very well, horses rub on them and just break them down. my only worry is if my horned sheep will get stuck on the panels.. i guess theres no way to know except to find out but i hate to have anyone get hung up real bad. i dont know if they would bother to stick thier heads through the squares because they really arent big enough, but i never say never! i really cant afford a hay ring so i need to figure something out that will hold up and also easy enough for one person to manuver. any thoughts on if this might be a real problem or do you think they will probably refrain from sticking thier heads through? i figure it will be tight enough to the hay they will be able to reach it, besides the horses do a good job at pulling a bunch off and dropping it outside of the feeders (aka making a mess!)

dwbonfire, My advice if you haven't done the cattled panels yet is to NOT DO IT!!!
with the various type of livestock you seem to be feeding at the same time with the
same feeders, Is to find farm auctions in your area and buy a hay ring cheaper. Or
sell somthing and buy a new one. Think about it if you loose just one animal what is
that loss going to be. Yes someone is going to get stuck and if no one is around they
will die, I am sure there are many people with horror stories on hay feeders out there.
try craigs list anything, you will find somthing safer out there. Even a Animal with a broken
leg will not be saveable with HIGH vet cost.
