I had a gal bring 4 goats to me to be bred. They got her on dec 31st.. I dewormed them with valbazen that very day. Today one of the does had two stillborn defective babies. What are some causes of stillborn/birthdefects ??

Valbazen.

I'm not sure what would happen to a pregnant goat who was dewormed with it, but I'd assume it would not be good. It very well could have been the Valbazen especially if it was given early on in pregnancy.

Yeah, Valbazen. It (and potentially other white dewormers) is known to cause birth defects if given early in the pregnancy.

If She gave birth today, that would be over the 5 month gestation, unless she was bred later and wormed again,or did I totally read this wrong:idunno I have brain overload right now.lol:hide

x2 it's July. Avg 150 day gestation she was due a long time ago.

If the valbazen was given early and there were issues more than likely the kids would have been absorbed early. Not full term overdue and stillborn. I would take them for a necropsy.

I don't think the OP meant that the goats were bred on Dec 31. That was the date that the gal got the goats. She doesn't say when they were bred. She also wormed then the day they were brought to her to be bred, before the breeding.

I don't use that wormer so I don't know if it safe to use immediately before breeding, but according to some research I did some say it takes a good time for it to leave the goat's system and that they can carry to full term and have deformed kids. Others say it causes abortions quickly so maybe it reacts differently in the various animals.

I would like more information about time frame, When did the doe abort? How far along was she in her pregnancy? when was she bred?
