today I noticed 2 small bumps on Daisy's neck they are small (quarter sized?) and there is one on both sides of her neck in the same location on both sides. they are hard with no fluid around them, and only visible if you really look and she has her neck stretched out. Red flags went off and I immediately thought CL but my goats are all supposed to be from CL tested herds and I'm not sure if abscesses can pop up anywhere or if its unusual for them to be identically sized in symmetrical locations like that. They also feel more like bone to me, I don't know do goats have bones like that right there? The other thing is 2 days ago I went into the barn and she had somehow jammed her head through the slats of a stall and couldn't get loose or even lay down or anything, hopefully she wasn't that way all night. But I couldn't get her head out and thought I was going to have to go fire up the chainsaw and cut the boards to get her loose. I finally managed to manipulate her head at just the right angle and pull her loose. So I'm wondering if she has swelling or even some sort of injury from that that I need to call the vet out to look at her? She was a little less in my face today but seemed normal besides that.

(Not my goat just a photo I pulled offline. The yellow dot is the general location of the bump.)

Hard, symmetrical knots do not sound like CL to me. Other than that I guess she banged herself up getting caught. She may be hurt. I would suggest keeping an eye on her and make sure she isn't off. My biggest concern would be her getting sick from the stress.

That's good to know, glad its not sounding like CL to other people too at the moment. Maybe there muscle knots from her trying to pull her neck out for so long. I'm actually glad it was her and not one of the other does, because she doesn't lose it and panic she just stops normally. I went in the barn and she was just standing there I walked around to the other side and she just looked at me with a really embarrassed look on her face and said muuuhh. It was like, yeah I have no idea how this happened either but it did, so just get me out already and don't you laugh while your doing it. She didn't look like she'd been panicked but wasn't happy, she kept turning her head and trying to pull it out. But I'll watch her and maybe give them all some probiotic powder mixed in the grain tonight for good measure.

I can't see or feel those bumps today. Does that mean they were probably muscle knots or something from being stuck?

Well, I am a noob to this, but that looks to be right about where she would have made contact if she was trying to get her own head out. Is the hair roughed up there, like she had been rubbing against those areas?

It was a little scuffed up all down her neck I think she tried going forward when she couldn't pull her head out as well as side to side and backwards of course. She seems fine now except I think she's going into heat so that might be part of the reason she's been quiet. She went into heat for the first time last month which seemed like its early in the season to me? But she seems quiet and avoids the other does slightly for awhile then she keeps her tail tucked for about 2 days and tries to mount the other does then she spends one and a half days screaming and trying to bust the door down on the gate to escape, and is overly affectionate with human males and my male collie. But she seems okay and no signs of anything so I think it probably was related to having her head trapped either swelling, muscle knots, or maybe something stress related? It went away to fast, so there wasn't anything for the vet to look at. But the whole herd is getting tested in a week or so before breeding so I'd think the test results would show something if there was anything to be seen.
