So when I got my rabbits recently, I asked the lady selling them if it mattered if you had bottoms in grass tractors.

She said yes you should (very confidently) because they will dig out. And she said they were REALLY good at digging out. She said that colony style people have to dig around the colony and put the barriers around the sides pretty deep to keep them from escaping.

But at the time I wasn't really interested in a colony style setup so I didn't think to ask how deep you'd have to go around the colony pen to keep them from getting out. (And others have said catching them to get them back in is a major ordeal.)

So I'm wondering how deep would you have to go with barriers to keep them from digging out?

And could you instead have a sort of flange system of horizontal barrier connecting to the bottom of a pen around the edges going either outward or inward to block this also? And if so how wide would it have to go?
