You really need the antibodies from the colostrum. Kefir would not have that. Very basically, the kid gets an immunity to things from mom until his/her own kicks in later. That is the most important part and then there is the extra nutrients and fat and stuff to give them energy.
If you can find someone who sells heat treated colostrum, then you can keep some on hand. It is good for a year frozen.
Thank you for the information. I've read somewhat on the forum here about the colostrum being the best for a new born but I wasn't sure if kefir would help instead of a milk replacer in case a doe can't produce any colostrum
I've also been reading on doing the pooch test and my wife went out this morning and checked the 2 does we thought may be pregnant. One of the does fits the description to a tee or rather a pooch. Now I'm keeping a closer eye on her and we have her due date around May 20th.
