i just put a deposit on a jersey calf. shes only 6 months old right now but im getting my breeding plans ready BECAUSE there arent many cows here. Those that are here are large breed beef cattle.

anyway- can a dexter stud a jersey easily enough or would i have to go AI?

I like the dexters for their size but jerseys are soooooooo darn cute! (my friends and family think im nutsby the way

You would have to AI, Jerseys are tall cattle compared to the 40 - 45 inch dexters. Our Dexter bull never managed to breed anything taller then 45", he himself is only 42".

Depending how willing he is able to do his job. ;)

My friend had a 1OO% lowline angus bull that had bred standard Angus, Lowline Angus, standard Hereford, standard Jerseys, standard Guernseys, standard Red Poll, and my Standard Angus/Guernsey cross cow. He was the only bull on the farm, and all the cows had calves.

He was not very tall compared to the Guernsey cow, as you can see in these pictures.

So, yeah, its possible that a Dexter can breed a Jersey. IMO

My Beltie bull managed to breed my full size Jerseys when he was 16 months old and half their size. Just remember one thing: where there is a hill, there is a way.
