I have a Nigerian buck that has scurs. One of the scurs is growing back and is going to end up growing into his skull. He is one year old.

Can I use horse nippers to cut off the end a little at a time?

I don't know, but please make sure he's had a recent tetanus booster before you do that. Someone I know recently lost a goat to tetanus after a dehorning - it was full horns not scurs, but a tetanus shot is cheap insurance against a terrible way to die :(

The best thing to do is cut the scur completely off and then use a dehorning iron to cauterize the wound and spray some topical wound antiseptic like Blue Kote to keep flies off and a LA 200 injection to combat any infection. This works for our operation. If you cut a little off at a time you risk the chance if cutting the artery and then you still have the scur. Much easier to take all the scur off at one time and it is one time pain versus continually cutting the horn which can be pain every time for the goat and like the others have suggested, get a tetanus vaccine for the goat prior to this procedure.
