Hey folks! I know it's a bit early to start the kidding thread, but I'm super excited, and after all, it is only three weeks and five days away before we have kids on the ground. The numbers currently are 31 Nigerians, 3 Mini-Nubians, and 8 Finnsheep due from March to June. We plan to have another 30-40 does kid from June to November as well.
But for right now, It's one Nigerian due March 02, and one Finnsheep due March 06. The rest start later in March.
All our kids and lambs are registered and our goats are on the DHI program.
Introducing:
D and L Meadows Morning Glory 2*D 2*M. Milked 602# in 305 days as a first freshener.

And HHFF0012 Angie, who will be a first freshener, and also our first sheep to go on the DHI Program for her complete lactation.

Hey all! Been a while...
Lambing is over, we had 16 lambs born. We had some issues with iodine deficiency, but once we resolved that, everything went well. Anyone else ever had issues with that but no goiters? That’s the closest thing to the symptoms I could find. I should probably start a thread about that.
All the lambs are sold.... Crazy fast. They are all so fun. Except that almost all of them were born at night...😉 We are keeping two ewe lambs to expand the flock.
Kidding is going great....started late March and doesn’t end until November. 😊 So far we’ve had 35 kids born, have a doe in labor right now and 9 more to go for this week. Thankfully a lot of the does are kidding in the day... beginning of April we had 12 kids born within 24 hours. All kids are sold as well, except one buckling I would like to sell as a herd sire, and have a crazy long waiting list.

Here's some pics for ya'll to enjoy.

They are so cute! I'm glad the lambs were healthy and that sounds like a lot of goat kids to come.

I'm looking into getting sheep in a year or so and have been looking at Finnsheep. What do you do with the fleeces? Are they easy keepers? Would you recommend them for a first timer?

Finnsheep are very easy keepers. If you have enough land, they do very well grass fed in the summer.
I sell the fleeces to a wool mill and also to one of our herdshare consumers who is a fiber enthusiast. Regular fiber sells for about $3/lb, but Finn goes for $10/lb. Its very high quality.
The usually are easy lambers and can raise 3 with no supplements. They are know for have multiple lambs (record is 9!!) but the highest we’ve had is quads.
Another huge plus for us anyway is they have naturally short tails and are polled. So yes, recommend them for first time sheep owners. 😊 Some pointers....get from a clean flock....OPPV and hoof rot free etc. Getting registered sheep always helps with selling the lambs.

Introducing our newest arrivals..

All three are polled! 👍 Buckling is on the left, the other two are doelings. We're gonna have to figure out some sort of 'Dip' name for them. Their moms name is Dipp'N Sugar, their grandmothers name is Serendipity, and their greatgrandmothers name is Dipp'N Dots. 😊 I can’t decide which doeling to keep...it may just have to be both. 😆

And here is a pile of four week old kids. 😍

This huge boy was 5.7 lbs! He was a single. But so cute, and he's polled and has one big moonspot on his other side.
