How do you determine the weight of a steer without going to a truck weigh station? Is there a formula you can use? I have a tape that measures/estimates the weight of a horse, can I use that?

Well the tape was pretty accurate for our calf, who was gone after 500 pounds. I was surprised that the horse tape was right on the money for the calf. He was weighed within a couple days for Fair, came up the same weight on tape and scale. Not sure how big your steer is, but works fine for a small dairy breed steer.

I know that this is an old thread, but I thought that I would share this with everyone. This is how you can weight a calf without a tape. They recommend not letting the cow eat or drink for 12 hours before you weigh it, but for my purposes of raising my one calf (SirLoin) this gives me a better idea then just guessing his weight.
