hi everyone! :frowI have been gone a LOOOONG time! Very busy here at the ranch. But it is kidding time so I want to start reading about everyone's kids!
All my does were put in with the buck July 1. I saw some show some signs of coming in but never saw one actually bred. But they are all pregnant and big as a house. Some bigger. I am hoping I don't have triplets but a couple look suspicious. Also one doe is out of a doe who produced quints last year, and she is bigger than anyone. Not wanting that many babies!

Anyway, my question is, do does stay on the same heat cycle from year to year? Like Spicey I know for a fact was bred around July 15 in 2011. She kidded DEC 12. She is one that is getting close now, but I did not physically see her get bred, just saw her wagging her tail a little. She is quiet about being in heat and I have never caught her kidding either, even with watching her constantly the first year. Since this is the 8th, I know she didn't get bred the first week. So I am wondering if she might have the same cycle and possibly got bred again around the middle of the month. Is this confusing or am I making some sense? :hu

It is certainly possible. With putting the buck in on July 1. He is also helping to bring them into heat. So it also could be that the buck is just bringing them into heat too. I think you would have to see if she came into heat at the same time if the buck wasn't in with her to know for sure.

I don't know if it is coincidence or what, but my FB Fainter doe is due the same week that she kidded last year. The last week of January. I have a Nubian that didn't even come into obvious heat last year until Dec. 18, and I have had her in with a buck now for 3 months and she still hasn't shown any signs of coming in again this year. I really don't mind May babies, but I was hoping for a little earlier this year from her.

That's what I am wondering, if it will be coincidence or not. The does started kidding this morning. She still hasn't done anything but she is huge. I never catch her kidding, and never see her breed. First year I bought her she was bred and kidded January 7th. Last year the young buck was only 6 months old but bred her around July 15th. This year we put her in with the buck July 1st but it's looking like none of them came in the very first week as they just started kidding today. Spicey is due soon, I just don't know what day.
