I'll start milking again next week - :celebrate - can't wait!!!!!

I only milked them for a few weeks before it was time to dry them up and I didn't use a strip cup - instead just a bowl. But I'm wondering if a true strip cup would be better. With the screen thingy or whatever it is. Do you all use one or do you improvise?

We used a strip cup years ago when we first got started with our standard dairy goats. But we just never had mastitis problems and got tired of using it. I think it's been about ten years now since we've owned one...

yes. when my parents had the little herd we used the store bought strip cup. we had a little bowl on the ground for the cats to drink it. every milking time you'd get the smart ones out there ready for milk. when i start milking i will use it.
i dont think its a bother because it can give you a heads up on if a goat has mastitis or pink milk, etc. even if you dont buy one from the store with the screen i would strip into a little cup or bowl. just my opinion.

I don't use a strip cup. I use 2 unscented baby wipes to wipe their teats. I use the second one (which is clean generally) and squeeze first steam on milk onto that. Give it a look see then milk them.

I used to use strip cups when I milked cows. I used the screened kind and the kind with the black "cup" at the end. I've also worked on dairies that just strip right onto the concrete, which still allows you to see any abnormalities in the milk (then the concrete gets hosed down).

I sometimes use a regular cup w/ the goat, but sometimes I dont' use anything.

Yes, I use a strip cup. Always. I bought the cup kind with the black insert that keeps the milk near the rim so it's near the light when you swish the first squeezes around. Then I just tilt the cup and it goes down the "drain" into the cup.

I'm using a bucket milker that is big enough to hold three to five does' milk right now. It is really important for me to catch any abnormalities right away so I don't ruin all the milk I've collected from all the does.

You don't have to buy anything special for a strip cup. Just use a dark blue or black mug that you already have. It works exactly the same as any store bought one.:)
