Donkeys are desert animals, built to thrive on lean food sources. Being desert animals, they don’t spread fat evenly over their body. They will get fat deposits, called pones, in several places, on either side of their spine, over the rib cage, on top of their hindquarters and on the top or crest of their neck. Fat pones are very hard to get rid of and detrimental to their health. Fat pones on the crest of their neck can cause the crest to get so heavy, that it falls to one side and even after losing weight, it will never stand back up.

Donkeys are highly intelligent and have the reputation of being stubborn. Not stubborn at all, they just want to know why they should do this or that and may refuse. Donkeys are often smarter than their human owners. LOL
