Drstratton - My Backyard Journey Journal

Well, some of those slow burning logs are still smoldering. Everything that was in the middle of the pit burned up really well. Hubs went out today and pushed the stuff on the edges into the pit. I don't think they'll all burn up until we add the remaining logs and torch them. I've been gone all day, snapped this picture when I got home.

Still glowing.

Me, I'd pull some ash for garden & chickens, before covering. 😁
I'll have to mention that to hubs. The sides of the pit are steeper than it looks in the picture and it's a combo of fine white and black coarse sand, which makes it hard to climb back out of. Not sure it's worth it. It would be easier to burn stuff somewhere else for ash. We still have plenty of wood around here. 🙂

Had to channel my inner lumberjack today. I was just finishing the second root and hubs came out and removed a 3rd. I was a little sad and relieved at the same time. Why sad...I love chopping wood... why relieved...I was getting tired... :gig

Mountain Ash is now in its forever home, in our main treeline.

Our bee tree nursery is growing. The 5 Pagoda trees are in the pots to the right.

We still need to figure out where they're all going.

We have a lot of pinecones that drop onto our lawn. Can't just mow them over, because they kill the grass. The pull behind sweeper doesn't do a very good job. Bending over and picking them all up is a lot work and a little back breaking. So we ordered a walk behind lawn sweeper. It does a pretty good job, still a good workout, because you might have to go over an area a couple of times. One way to get your steps in...lol

I have pine cones too. I try to pick them up so I don't dull out the mower blades. I did not even know that tool existed. I will look it up. Thanks.

will it get sticks??
It gets some sticks. Like I said you might have to go back and forth a bit, so it's not perfect, but it sure beats picking them all up by hand.

I wonder how that might work on sweet gum balls...
