Drstratton - My Backyard Journey Journal

So far the girls seem to be undisturbed by any predators. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks mom, we prefer our water on the ground! :hu :gig

The tray doesn't fit quite right, even though I thought it was the one for this AeroGarden, it's the only one available, but it fits good enough. The tomatoes are doing really well. A lot of my flower seeds didn't come up, I don't know why.
Apparently Aerogarden stopped manufacturing at least for a while. Or that's what they told me when there was a problem with the tray order. I'm not sure what their future is. Probably hurting from a lot of competition now. Hard for them to keep their prices so high with so much cheaper options now. Interesting on the flower seeds. Wonder what that's about.

They'll have to figure it out, or they will go under. You're right they are not cheap. I bought this one for my mom and she loved it.

I don't know about the flower seeds either. I'm kind of bummed about it. I don't know if I should direct sow them, try again or plant them in trays.

I bought a cheaper one but had issues with it fairly quickly. Got an Aerogardens on black friday sale then got another one with the seed starting tray in a bundle sometime around christmas. The bundle ended up missing the pods and something else and that's when I found out from the manufacturer that they had halted manufacturing. I kept the tray and they issued a partial refund for the pods which I was able to get ones that fit after that. Had planned on trying the garden seeds that needed starting this season but now we're moving so it hasn't happened. Next season we'll give it a go.

I'm wondering if the flower seeds didn't like the constant moisture? Did they mold or rot?

I'm glad you got a good deal on two of them. I didn't, but I didn't care, because it was for mom.

I think that might be what the issue was. I had it covered for a bit and now I'm thinking I shouldn't have done that. But, you cover the seeds with the little caps in the regular tray, so, I don't really know.

I bought some generic pods, but didn't like them as well. But, I will use them when I run out of the original pods.

Regardless of the flower failures, I'm totally impressed with the tomatoes. Tomatoes sprout so quickly, they don't really have time to rot.

I think after I pull the tomatoes out, I will try again with some flower seeds. Make sure it's on the flower starter setting and see if that makes a difference. I will also leave it uncovered.

I will do our tomatoes like this next year too. Such great results and it will save us some money.

Saving money is a good thing. I hope you'll update with how your next try goes. I'm taking notes for sure. ;) So far I have just grown lettuce in ours. Absolutely paid for themselves already in lettuce for sure. Oh and I did 1 pod of dill that came with the initial unit. Put a lot of dried dill away before it ran it's course. That was nice. I'd like to do more herbs in it at some point. Didn't have to worry about pests like I do outside.

I'll share. The lack of pests is definitely a bonus!

Working on the bathroom. We're finally putting up the GoBoard. Getting closer to tile. It will be a good day as long as we both don't get too tired and crabby...lol

First piece. My husband spent a lot of time on making that pony wall sturdy. There's no movement to it at all. The metal pipe is secured to the floor joists down below. One nice thing about having an unfinished section in our basement, is easy access to do that and the plumbing.

That looks so professional.

Thank you! 💗 My husband really does amazing work. He builds everything to last and look good at the same time. Our electrical inspector loved his work. You could easily trace everything. We missed only two things when we wired our house, somehow we forgot an outlet in the hallway and they changed the code on the dryer outlet. Both easy fixes.
