Thinking of getting pigs for the homestead and have been looking at Durocs. But I have a couple of questions before committing my self to them.

I know there are different factors but on the average how often can the sow be bred with out burning her out? I have heard up to twice a year. Would a person want to do that then maybe skip one or 2 breedings to give here a chance to recover?

Twice a year works really well - they love being pregnant and giving a pig a rest can lead her to not getting pregnant again. Lean healthy sows get pregnant - fat sows can have big probs :welcome
