Is anyone using electric netting for pigs? We haven't raised pigs in like 15 years and are getting piglets in spring. I wouldn't think it would work to start off larger pigs, but was wondering if you started them off young enough if they'd learn to respect it. With broiler chickens, I hang a gate handle over the regular (Gallagher) fencer so I have a quick disconnect if someone gets tangled up.

Hi there,

We use electric netting all the time here for piglets. We have found that when we wean them it is best to put them in an area that they cannot get out of with a strand of polywire around. Just a small area. We leave them in there for 2 -3 days. From there we put them out on pasture behind the electric netting. You want to put two in at once else a lone one will panic & run straight through.

We move ours fairly regularly but keep them behind it until they are big enough to graduate to 3 wires of polywire - can be 4-6mths.

Liz
