Ewe with scabby ears

Hi Everyone- I’m new here and hoping you can help! I’ve got a ewe with scabs/ skin condition on the tips of her ears. The other day one kinda fell off and started bleeding. Any idea on what it is? I’ve been spraying Blu-Kote as a preemptive measure. None of my other sheep have this so I’m hoping to get on top of it. Is it Fungal? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Probably some sort of fungus or ringworm type of thing. I would treat it with an anti-fungal shampoo or spray. Maybe a sulfur ointment? Blue Kote is just a wound cover, it will keep flies off wounds but won't kill fungus or ringworm.

Fungus infections and ringworm can often transfer from animals to humans to when treating the ears wear gloves. Watch to see if it transfers to other animals in the flock since the affected animal will scratch or rub the itchy spots against posts, feeders, etc. Other flock animals can catch it.

It might be mange mites. I was just talking to the vet about it yesterday. Apparently they don't really see it in wooled sheep like Hampshires but a lot in katadins (not sure if that's what sheep you have) or the haired sheep like dorpers and what I have crackers and he said it's a genetic thing too some sheep are just way more resistant to it so if you breed her and her babies get this too you may not want to keep any sheep out of her. It could be something else but I suggest you treat for mange just in case it can't hurt them. Give 1 ml dectomax per 75 lbs bodyweight and then re dose her in 3 weeks. I have gave it to my ewe that had it and it's helping her. Mange usually starts around the eyes which makes me think it's something else but it gets on ears to so i would treat her as soon as you can before it spreads to her other body parts

Mine had a white crusty stuff on inside of ears. I scrubbed it with hydrogen peroxide then sprayed BluKote. That took care of it.
Dr Naylor BlueKote is an antifungal and germicidal. It will stain you purple!
