Farmerjan's journal - Weather

Saturday. Just finished sink full of dishes and ate some ....gee want to guess..... chicken for lunch... I did not eat any breakfast.
48 overnight... up to 75 already... Might break some records here today. It is sunny and breezy... really kind of nice... makes you want to get out and do things...

Last night the cows came in with no problem... Maggie was near the gate and came in... the heifer was near the other end of the barn near the other gate... but before I could get over there, she came around the back of the barn and right in the front gate... perfect as can be.

Went up to the cows and the 2 jerseys came out with no problem this morning...came right to the gate so I let them go... I put their grain in after they were out...the calves will eat some, but it will be ready for them later when they come in.

Got the clothes hung this morning... I did not put the lid down, on the machine, as I was soaking the white socks ... then forgot, so they were not done until last night... Ran an extra rinse as seemed like there was some "soapiness" left. So they will be ready to come in, in a couple hours since the sun and breeze is drying them nice..

I do not have alot of energy... hate to waste the day but not going to push too hard. Rain coming in late this aft... like 4 or 5, and then another batch of rain coming through tonight... then clearing out...60's tomorrow then back into the 70's and 80's for a couple days...

I am going with DS and GF and ???? who knows, to Roanoke to the hockey game this evening...It's playoffs... maybe 1 or 2 more games... they asked a couple weeks ago, of course I had to have this bug and the laryngitis... but I am going... Not near as wiped out as I was mid week...not alot of energy either... so taking it easy today too, so I can go... going to get a shower and wash my hair as it needs it... and take it easy. Will get the clothes in before I go put the cows in, just before I leave to meet them... Since we are going south, no sense in them coming back here to get me, I will meet them in Lexington where we can get right on the interstate. So, I need to get everything done by 4 or so...

Sent a text to guy who has the Vor Werk chickens we saw at the Swap meet this past fall..... they are in the Roanoke direction...wanting eggs to set or chicks... like in April.... and he texted back and said to just let him know, he would have some for me... I did not ask the price, but most hatching eggs are in the $25 plus range... Not having them shook up being shipped will make it worth a little more if I have to pay... I am thinking that I will get 2 dozen eggs to allow for some failures... These are the red ones with the contrasting BLACK neck (hackle) feathers and black tails.. Look like the Lakenvelders... distinct white with black necks and tails, except in a real red and black contrast... @Mini Horses and I saw some when I bought that big trap a couple years ago...and I should have gotten them then, but when I went back, they were sold...Just really like the contrast...
And NO, I do not have the other coop yet... DS has said that he is going to get it soon... and I am going to ride him about it...

So, that is about it for now... going to wash my hair then get the clothes and all... just kinda meander the afternoon so I don't get too out of breath...

Those were sure some pretty birds!! Nice to find some within drive distance. What's the kicker is the incubate & chick phase. 😁 I'm waiting for this years broody....have pen ready. I'll set her on some eggs. Currently giving away 6-8dz eggs a wk, so don't really need more but love to watch the hen & chicks. I can always sell a few young birds. They bring decent $$.

Are they calm? I recall the Bresse @canesisters got were flighty.

Jan, you're not the only one just "shuffling thru" the day. I'm plum tired. Just relaxing, doing a few easy things, no pressure. Sometimes we need to!! Not often that we do it -- today, yes.

Biggest accomplishment was running, emptying, dishwasher. and 2 loads of laundry. Tough day.

I feel the exact same way. I always get a little behind on the farm stuff this time of the year too. Always so much to do. I also work 2 jobs off the farm, so 10 hour shifts 6 days a week. :th
