So this is something that I've been having a hard time with. I hope someone can give me some insight on this.

It mostly applies to poultry, but does apply to other livestock also, particularly those that have young litters that you are caring for.

If say i have a dry grain mix that I'm feeding to young, and then I add water to it....

How much of the water would you count as the weight for doing calculations on feed amounts to the animals? It would make sense that you shouldn't count water too much with the feed mix.

But if you think about matter, all matter has minute amounts of H2O in it also. So maybe its not bad to think about a small amount as part of the weight?

But I truly don't want to cheat, and so I thought I'd get input.

Example; dry oats fed to small poultry approximately 4 cups dry mix added. Then about twice that amount of water added to make it into a slop form. Probably I shouldn't count the water too much into the mix, for daily feed amounts...but how much and what would you do?

(Pigs for example, feeding as slop also used to be a think a long time ago.)
