I found this article written for Finnsheep breeders in an archived 'Short Tales' newsletter. It's an eye opening article about making sure these Finnsheep ewes are getting enough nutrition to carry multiple lambs through full term and then, do it again the following breeding season. These ewes can get emaciated with the drain on their bodies.

I had a yearling give birth on her first birthday March 15th to twins. She was sheared in late May and I was shocked to see her thin frame, even though she was still getting grain through her lactation. I wasn't providing her enough nutrition. I'm glad she's on the mend and has better body condition but I'd label her a hard gainer!

It makes sense that a ewe would need more nutrition in late gestation. This is a good article!
