I was recently told by my local feedbarn that my steers only need "blue grass" not alfalfa. Any responses? I don't really know what bluegrass is, but the cows don't seem too interested in it.

We don't grow blue grass here but, I can tell you that the steers don't need as high of quality feed as a cow. If you grow your own and have enough it's not that big of deal. Just feed the lower quality to the steers. But, if your buying your hay it will be cheaper to buy the lower quality feed. By higher and lower quality I'm talking about things like protein percent not things like it's really brown from being rained on or really moldy.
