Fly strike

someone gave us a rabbit who has fly strike in the hopes that we would be able to save it, does anybody have any suggestions or should it be put down? Bathed him clipped the dirty hair on his butt off and covered the soars with blue coat and put vasaline in it so any maggots that came out would suffocate. We made plain oat meal and gave it to him. His genitals are inflamed and possibly infected. We had a rabbit who got this once but just ended up putting him down

Depends how bad it is, if the maggots have got inside his body I would put him out of his misery now.
Most rabbits don't recover, but if they caught it early enough you may be able to save him.
He'll probably need to see a vet and get antibiotics for any infection.
