I found 2 nigerians in milk for sale from a local breeder with a closed herd. One is registered, but is 7 years old. The breeder says she only breeds them once a year and they keep kidding until they are about 10. She is asking $200 for that one. The other is not registered, though the lady says she is also pure. She is 4, and the breeder is asking $150 for her. She also said she will take $325 for the pair. She said the price is firm. The breeder is thinning her herd as she has more than she can handle right now.

So is this a good deal? Will the 7 year old still be breedable for 3 more years? That seems old to me. Also, how long can I expect them to stay in milk? They had the babies mid-Feb, so almost 8 weeks ago.

prices sound reasonable at least for the area I am in. I am told you can breed them up to 10 years and even beyond. Are they trained to the milk stand? good mothers? did she tell you how much milk they give on average?

I just bought an expecting 3.5 year old for $225 (unpapered) she just had twins and I cant wait to start milking, her previous owner said at peak she will give up to two quarts a day, I plan to milk only once a day and leave the kids on half the time, but still that could mean a quart a day from my little lady! She is all trained to the milk stand, walks on a leash, shes like a puppy :) They are great little goats. I really like mine. My other doe was a year and a half when I got her and had never been bred, not friendly (at least when I got her she wasnt, she is warming up to me) and I paid $75 for her.

So I would say if they are both proven breeders and give good quantities of milk and are in good health that its a decent deal. Just my $.02
