My experience with putting dirt and planting in cinder blocks is that they act as a brick oven in summer and everything dies. Except weeds.

Many of the vegetables die in our summer heat, too, but point taken.

We also have a lot of rain.

I was thinking of leaving a few blocks open, growing short herbs.

I grew some bodacious onions in the holes. Fall planted, spring harvested before it got too hot.

Yeah -- pretty much the same here. Sounded like a great idea before I tried it. In my mind's eye it was going to be gorgeous - in real life - brown something or others.

Planting IN the holes. But I think you said you were going put caps on the tops - then you wouldn't have holes.

I was going to cap some of them, plant in a few. Purslane and portulaca love heat, a few tucked in might do well. Will see.

Purslane if very healthy eating...excellent nutritional profile. Chickens love it. So do my grazers.

I got a phone call from Lowes, they are refunding me the ENTIRE delivery fee due to the last minute rescheduling of the blocks, and my inconvenience!

Works for me.


And the mattress and frame for the third bedroom were delivered, set up. It replaced a secondhand set we bought in 2007.

That's it. I'm done. No more "investments"!
