fuzzi's "Gardens and Chickens...and Goats? Oh My!" Journal and More Thread

So...my fatigue on Sunday was probably due to a kidney infection. Gotta listen to the body.

After the runaround with providers and the hoops I had to jump through to get treatment I ordered an antibiotic refill through an online pharmacy. First time you pay for a "consultation", submitting why you're requesting the medicine. They have a physician review and approve or decline. Totally worth $30 fee to bypass the imbeciles keeping me from communicating with my personal doctor in a timely manner. Meds are on the way, will be stored for a future need.

If you missed the provider circus story, it's in the Coffee thread. Link: https://www.backyardherds.com/threads/coffee-anyone.35880/post-807699

Nuff about me.

My Iris' are just about 4" tall leaves right now.

This is from a group of iris I got from a physician at work, years ago. She thinned her beds, brought in the extras to distribute. But the iris never bloomed after the first year, not happy in the location.

Two years ago my gardenia succumbed, and I chose to make a change, enriching the bed and planting perennials. The iris I moved here grew thick, lush, did not bloom the following year. It's not unusual for iris to skip blooming the first year after transplant.

I'm very happy with the yellow, but am hoping some of the peach varieties survived...

Beautiful Iris!
I meant to thank you. Iris have been on a learning curve for me. They weren't happy where I wanted them. I had to submit.

My pond iris took a few years to bloom, too. No need to clean the pond much, they love to do it for you.

Morning walk with a very good Caleb (!) left me feeling tired, so I'm taking my rest time to catch up.

Put on hold due to illness:
  • Planting vegetables
  • Rebuilding raised beds
  • Caleb and I going driveabout :\
It'll be okay.

Scheduled tomorrow is the monthly auction I use for getting rid of extra cockerels. I made the decision to take Jacob (9 months) and Silas (< 2 yrs). Silas is a good roo, but will not be used for breeding. He serves no purpose, and I can't be sentimental, he eat$ and 💩. Jacob is a pretty boy, but is stirring up the flock and annoying his sire. I need to move him out of the main coop, but don't see a need to inflict him on the older non-breeders in Coop Deux. So, yeah, he's going too.

I have to drop them off by 8am, but the auction doesn't start until 10am, and it takes a couple hours to get through the poultry. So, it will be a long morning, and probably too much for Caleb. If I were feeling closer to 100% I'd just walk him around the fields. Oh well.

As they're bantams I doubt anyone is buying them for the pot.

Silas

Boys are in their baskets for tomorrow.

I was just a little apprehensive about Silas, not that he's ever been aggressive, but he is almost two. After I took him off the roost, put him in the basket, and was tying on the cover he started talking. He sounded plaintive, like "Where is everyone?" I felt just a little sad.

Jacob did more fluttering around after being placed in his basket, and did a bit of complaining, but not bad. He had been hiding out more in the back of the coop, so hopefully he'll wind up in a place with his own gals.

I can't keep them all. :\
