fuzzi's "Gardens and Chickens...and Goats? Oh My!" Journal and More Thread

I have a hen setting 2 eggs. Thought to add more but -- I don't need the chicks or eggs 😵‍💫 I'm just letting her go through her instinctive way.
I am using Dinah's momma urge to possibly get a couple pullets without hauling out the incubator. I've not had to hand brood since my original day old chicks, three years ago. I like letting the broody do it.

Rethinking my pollinator garden area.

Late morning.

The Rose of Sharon bushes will probably screen the backyard really well, BUT also will shade the rest of the area by the fence. So, my thinking is this: put the Joe Pye weed where the RoS are, as they will spread into a 6' shrub but not block sunlight like the RoS would. They would be a decent screen.

And I have a couple thoughts where I could move the RoS to, possibly to the south side by the driveway. There they could screen the backyard on the opposite side of the house.

Thinking, thinking...

Still dry here, severe drought. Some areas are still growing, like next to the woods.

Trimmer time!

1000065526.jpg

I trimmed next to the fence, and around stumps and roots that are too tall for the lawnmower to clear. The remaining growth is on the other side of the fence, will tackle probably tomorrow.

After finishing the fence I continued the circuit, clearing to the ground in front of the old metal shed, then alongside the woods. And I only used two trimmer strings!

The middle section is now doable by mower. DS walked over the area with me, and said he'll do it. It will need to be soon...

I'm wore out, 25 minutes was all I did, but it took a bit of muscling the trimmer over rough ground. I guess I'm still tired from my recent illness.
