I thought chickens don't have taste buds? I had an egg eater two homes ago. I blew out the egg and filled with siracha. The chicken still ate it.

I've read that they can't taste "heat".
So adding hot pepper flakes to their feed will deter rodents & such.
Surely they can taste to some extent??

Food coloring might be better. You want it to get all over them if the egg is busted.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's probably going to wait until I get back from my trip. Broody is still on 6 eggs (I checked under her this afternoon, she was not amused) and I just don't have time to mess with it.

It's not empty, but it has lost some of the mustard...

This morning, moved from the wheelbarrow, on the ground about 6' away.

I tossed what was left. It either served its purpose, or not.


Abigail forced her way into the box where Naomi is still sitting on 6 eggs.

I removed Abigail, repeatedly. She finally went in the other box, settled in, and then tucked the faux egg underneath her breast. She didn't lay, as far as I could tell.

Maybe she's going broody.
