So i got back to work last night and the folks there just didnt understand why i stayed home for my 1st babies born. I was told "its just a goat".:tongue. I told them of the prices of some of the nubians we have been looking at ranging anywhere from $250-$500. They told me i was crazy. Does anyone know what the highest selling buck and doe is? I have tried to find it on google but cant get it worded right. They just dont believe anyone would pay over $40-$50 for a "stupid goat".:somad. Thats why I like goats. They just dont get it. Lol. It doesnt matter what breed. Just would like to know. TIA

Everyone remember when Boers first came to USA? A lot of them into TX and stuck there because of quarantine & federal movement limits. They were pricy!! I brought the first known Fullbloods to VA. It was a small herd of 8 does that had been implants, then 9 mos old, plus 6 nubs that had implants, & a young buck. (The 8 were sold as part of a divorce settlement) I had those does AI bred to other bucks before I picked them up in TX.

I can tell you that every buck that hit the ground was $2K the day they were born & people with commercial herds were "in-line" to buy them. Plus my half breed doelings were scooped up for same reason....commercial production. At one point I kept 75-80 does, about 25 FB Boer. These were huge, beautiful does & bucks. Some bucks well over 250# matured.

The mini horse market used to be strong and expensive, not now.

this buck is 9 mos & 182 lbs. I was glad to have him tame! It was good I had 50 acres of great pasture/forage at my farm.

On flip side here's a 15 year old mini stallion, winter coat but National champ in conformation @ 28".....smaller than that buck.......

I don't think we here in the US "cherish" the goat as much as others in the world. And compared size wise, our standard goats are pretty small compared to some. Here's a link to a goat being sold in 2012 for 128,000 British pounds, which equates to $157,427 @ today's exchange rate. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223935/Eid-goats-selling-128-000.html

There are goats in the middle east that sell for huge amounts and they are huge goats!
