I am canning & dehydrating 50 lb of carrots for the family...am cutting off the green shoulders...wondered if they were ok to feed my two alpines? They love carrots but I'm not sure if the green parts are toxic. Both goats are pregnant, if that makes a difference.

For that matter, are they ok for our rabbits?

I hope so, because I feed my goats carrot tops all the time :)
In fact, all my girls look forward to "dessert" - the peels, skins, and other vegetable discards that they get after milking in the evening. They're CRAZY about sweet potato skins, butternut squash skins, carrot scrapings, apple peels....big treats for them.

We use it in our salsa all the time since we usually have that available when we don't have cilantro growing.

They are fine. The only things that are veggies that I know of them being poisoned by is potatoes/skins and tomato plants (which I know is actually a fruit) lol. Also anything from the nightshade family so maybe eggplant as well.

Thanks for the replies. They do love them. Just wanted to make sure the green part was ok.

So funny to feed them treats - one's favorite is broccoli, the other likes apples best. The pushy one is, well, pushy. The quiet one will steal treats out of the pushy one's mouth and eat right in front of her. LOL!

I used to have one goat that LOVED tomatoes! I have never been able to get another goat since or before to eat a tomato but this doe was absolutely nuts over them.

Probably fine in moderation. If they will even it them...I am often surprised at what my goats turn up their noses to.
