Hello all;
I've been dabbling in chickens off and on for the last few years prior to that I was an avid horse women but time became a premium and the cost a little much.
At the moment I have 36 baby chicks due to arrive in a few weeks. Silver Dorkings, Speckled Sussex, Buttercups, EE and Buff Orpingtons. I do look forward to having them about the yard. I've been contemplating adding a few goats and a couple of meat pigs as well but will continue to research. I like the older heritage breeds as I feel they need preserving even if we do eat some along the way.
As my title reads I am from Maine. My childhood was spent around farm animals and now that I have seen what there is to see; I've determined that the simple life is for me. If I can grow it or raise it then that's what I want to be doing. To feed my family healthy home grown food...
Hope to learn from those of you who have BTDT.
