I just wanted to introduce myself and ask for any advice. We live in southeast Iowa and I've had chickens, ducks, and turkeys for several years. My kids have had rabbits for about a year now. But now I'm wanting to get some goats, and I've been looking into Nigerian Dwarfs. I've been doing some research into what I'd need for shelter, care, feed, etc. And it looks like it would be best to start with 2 wethers (i'm not looking to breed any as of this point--just pets). Any advice for a future first time goat owner would be appreciated. I've got a pen about 40' X 12' with a 4' X 4' shelter with electrical, fencing up 8 feet and covered top.

Hello and welcome to BYH! Glad you joined us!
We have some goat folks here who can probably help you. I don't have any goats.
Also you might want to start a new thread in the goats section with your questions that way more goat folks can see it. :)

Greetings and welcome to BYH from NE TX! So glad you joined us. Sounds like you already have a perfect setup for a few goats! I concur on getting a couple of wethers if you have no intention of breeding or wanting dairy/milk. You can generally get them for very little money. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
