Thought I'd say, "HI". Heard about this forum from BYC and have lurked a bit reading up on goats. Totally new to goats, so all this info is GREAT.

I think I'll be getting a couple of girls in the next month or two. There's an Oberhasli dairy south of me with kids fairly soon. I'm so very excited.

My one word of caution:

Goats will absolutely steal your heart!! They each have a personality of their own, they are remarkably smart. Much smarter than some people I know.....

Get a good book: Story's Dairy Goat is a good one. Do lot's of research, I can't believe how much there is to know about goats.

They do require attention and good food and good medicine.

But they are soooooooo worth it.

Thanks everybody. :D

I plan on getting the Storey's book- just haven't yet. Fias co farm has been a great read too.

I was wondering about a good book on keeping urban goats specifically. Poop management's one topic that comes to mind. And how much space I'll need for hay storage. Still not sure how much hay two would go through in a week.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here!
