New homesteader here. We purchased 11 acres of land in Georgia last March. We raised meat chickens this past spring, we have a laying flock, and are planning on adding Nigerian dwarf goats soon! Hoping to get some advice on the goats!
Hello and welcome from Tennessee! Congratulations on your new farm. We got our first goats, 3 Nigerian Dwarf doelings, in June. I plan to milk them in the future, but they're still too small to breed, so we're just enjoying them as pets right now.
I'm new to goats so don't have a ton of advice to offer. Is there anything in particular you were wondering about? I've learned you need to keep an eye out for parasites (look up Famacha scoring if you haven't already. Worms are becoming resistant to dewormers, so only worm as necessary). Also offer hay 24/7 and a good loose mineral. I use sweetlix meatmaker minerals, which I've heard recommended a lot. Even with good loose minerals, I've had to give my three copper boluses, and I plan to start giving them replamin gel monthly that contains selenium, among other things.
Spend time on forums like this one and get a couple of good goat books. A real life goat mentor would be ideal if it's possible in your situation.
Best of luck with your plans! When do you plan to get your goats? Do you want to milk them?
