I stood up in the front seat as a child so I could see out. Slam on brakes, right arm out to keep me from flying through windshield. Must not have worked too well for other people, that’s why we have car seats.
It's amazing how my generation survived without carseats. We had to use seatbelts on long trips, but not around town. The state passed a seatbelt law when I was a teenager, so I've been buckling up ever since.

Around the farm, doing feeders or going fishing I don't have the kids wear one. It's mostly on a what are my chances of getting pulled over scale. Nowadays if you grab a beer and a .22 with the kids to go pond fishing 3 miles down the (A DIRT, COUNTY) road it's 3 separate felonies. :(

To this day the only reason my Dad wears a seat belt is to shut up the alarm that dings when he doesn't. I have a time getting him to put it on when he rides with me because the passenger alarm will turn off after a little while.
