Texas that is. :)

My beloved and I live on 46 acres, mostly fenced. We started with chickens and I go back and forth with wanting cows and not wanting cows. I'm here to learn as much as I can about care, maintenance and general issues with keeping a couple head of cattle, mostly as yard art but perhaps for the freezer.

Welcome from Ohio! I don't have the land to consider cows, and I'm not sure I could raise one for myself anyway, it's hard enough not to get attached to the lambs. Good luck if you get one (or more).

I mostly want them for yard art. They are so peaceful to watch. :)

I did a batch of cornish cross chickens (meat birds) just to see if I could. I can. LOL

LOL! Yep, far North Texas, some might say Southern Oklahoma. :) I do still have the chickens. I researched for a year before I started with them. I had it set up so I could take care of them on weekends when visiting our property. Now that we are here full time I think about branching out. I have 50 coturnix quail eggs in the incubator now, should start popping this weekend.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to hanging out! Lots to learn.

I wasn't sure either but I was able to do it with the birds. Cows I wouldn't have to butcher myself so that would be easier.

Greetings and welcome to BYH from NE Texas. Mount Pleasant area to be exact. Glad you joined us! You're really only a couple hours west of me and there are several other active members that are within "shouting" distance of you as well. Between us there are goats, sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, dogs & cats, living together... complete bedlam in other words! :gig Anyway, I hope to be getting a few steers to keep my pastures "mowed" for me and hopefully produce a little income down the road and freezer filler, not to mention help me keep my Ag Exemption... Anyway, be that as it may, please make yourself at home! Browse around and jump in when you feel the call.

Thanks, yes, we are very close. We actually chose to get a wildlife exemption so we did not HAVE to maintain livestock. Our land backs up to Parkhill Prairie which is undeveloped so it was a natural fit for us. That said, I really do want to get a couple of herefords just for fun, I just don't want to have to chase said animals if they get out which they seem to do fairly regularly around here. Of course our neighbors cattle have all but destroyed our fence between our two tracts so I'll likely have to replace that with a cattle panel fence before actually getting any cows. :)
