My big alpine buck has a horn that is growing funny.

One stick straight up and the othe rcurls behind his head. He kinda looks like a unicorn.

We need to trim the one that is curled.

How do I do this? Does it hurt them to trim it?

I would nip a small amount off at a time with a horse hoof nipper. It may bleed, but there is no choice if it is going to grow into his head. By nipping a small amt off the chance of severe bleeding lessens. If it does bleed it will stop on its own, it may look terrible if he shakes his head around but it will stop. Not sure if it actually hurts seems they are more peed off when you hold them to do the deed!

my vet said NOT to cut goat horns with a nipper or cow horn cutting thingy. the horn will crack, all the way down to skull. better to cut with a saw, dremel tool, etc. he used a wire saw to cut ours. depending how far back you cut as to how much blood you will get. have blood stopping powder available. could also try banding the horn.
